This week, House was back to his usual cranky, manipulative self. The patient this week was a 16-year-old boy of gypsy heritage suffering from difficulty breathing, pain and then his liver nearly shut down.

The team was hindered from doing all their strangest treatments by the boy’s family who are very suspicious of anyone outside their small community. Foreman felt very moved by the boy’s intelligence and potential and tried to offer him an internship at the hospital to further his studies, but the boy refused because he didn’t want to go outside his community.

House and the team were evaluating some of the boy’s symptoms when House made my favorite quote of the week:

You guys are still thinking like doctors, when you should be thinking like plumbers. C’mon! Let’s see some butt crack!

During the course of the boy’s treatment, House discovered that his reserved handicapped parking place had been moved farther from the building and the closer one given to a new research doctor who was confined to a wheelchair. He even got into an argument with the new doctor about who was the most handicapped and therefore, deserved the closer space.

He took his concern to Cuddy, who informed him that the Americans with Disabilities Act says that the closer space goes to the person with the worse handicap. He decided to push the issue and ride around in a wheelchair for a week on a bet with her. The bet was that if he could do it without getting out of the chair for the entire week, he’d get his spot back.

Of course, he used it to his benefit by telling people things like, “Hey, you can’t yell at a guy in a wheelchair!” And when he had to ask someone to help him put something on a high shelf, “That was so humiliating.”

In the end, he did get his spot back and the boy’s problems were diagnosed as being caused by a toothpick he had swallowed.

Now, maybe it’s just me, but wouldn’t someone notice that they had swallowed a toothpick? Don’t you think they would seek help for that? Or at least mention it when they were rushed to a hospital?

Either way, this was a great episode. House is back to his old self again, the whole Tritter thing is behind him and the show was mostly focused on his argumentative personality and the diagnosis of a patient with a “zebra” disease.

I enjoyed this episode a lot. It’s great to see the show back on track and I am still enjoying the bantering between House and Cuddy.

The show started with House eating and watching TV in a patient’s room.

Wilson walked in and asked “What are you doing here? I thought you always ate with Coma Guy?”

House replied, “Meet Vegetative State Guy. Better company. Hey! Tell him about those sherpas you dropped acid with in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.”

I love that sarcasm! I’m chuckling, even as I’m typing…House was in rare form in this episode.

Then things got immediately tense when Wilson confronted House about stealing his prescription pad and forging his name. House wanted to know what Wilson told the cop and he said that he had lied. Wilson told him that they could put House away for ten years after they took his license to practice medicine.

House replied, “So, everything’s good then.”

Wilson repeated, “I lied to the cops!”

House said, “There is no case unless they can prove that I either got the drugs illegally or sold them illegally. I didn’t do the second and you lied about the first. Game over”

Wilson warned him, “Tritter’s just playing, he’s going to see how clever you are, then just walk away…”

House said, “The important thing is that you keep prescribing the same amount of drugs to me or it’ll look suspicious.”

Wilson, “Here’s another way to look at it, having forced me to lie to the police, your first concern is securing your drug connection”

Just then, a young man entered the room, took at look at them and asked if they were joining his father for lunch. He said he should have called ahead for a table.

House then did some quick, strange diagnosing of the young man an told him he had a disorder that keeps him from seeing things when they move. He said that he would probably also have seizures and by blinking the lights he had tried to set one off. At that moment, the young man fell to the floor and started to seize.

House stated, “God, I love this family!”

Once admitted, the patient had Cameron doing vision tests. He told her that he could see fine then and that he had had seizures before, but mostly little ones. He had lots of tests with no results.

The team found out that he has no living relatives that he was in touch with except the father, who has been in a coma for ten years. Then they find a backpack filled with bottles of wine.

House discovered that the father had been having the same kinds of seizures while in his coma. He feels that the problem must be hereditary. House has the team start DNA tests on both the father and son, then investigate you patient’s home.

After talking to the patient, he started to feel nauseous, had discoloration on his abdomen and started to spit up blood. Cameron said that his liver was failing.

House decided to wake up the father but the team was trying to talk him out of it and Cuddy walked in to tell him to stop. But, in his usual way, House administers the meds anyway.

Just then, the Vegetative State Guy awoke, sat up in bed and asked for a steak.

House started to ask him questions about the family medical history. The man said there were no seizure issues on wither side of the family. Then, before he would answer any more questions, he wanted that steak.

Wilson saw House heading toward the cafeteria. He said, “Ah! the rumor in the cafeteria was that Caustic Guy was waking up Coma Guy.”
House: “Technically, Vegetative State Guy was woken up by…yeah, Caustic Guy.”
Wilson: “So what happened?”
House: “I have to get him a steak before I can ask him any more questions.”
Wilson: “He doesn’t want to talk about his son?”
House: “It doesn’t even seem to emotionally register that his son is sick.”
Wilson: “Brain issue. He was asphyxiated, spent ten years as asparagus, there’s no telling what damage is in there.”
House: “It’s possible. Of course, there’s always the simple explanation. Maybe he just doesn’t like his son.”
Wilson: Only in your world would that be simple.”
House: “The delusion that fathering a child installs a permanent geyser of unconditional love…”
Wilson: “Maybe your father’s feelings were conditional. Not everyone’s was.”
House: “Of course, that would play into your romantic vision…”
Wilson: “In terms you would understand, we have an evolutionary incentive to sacrifice for our offspring. Our tribe. Our friends. Keep them safe.”
House: “Except for all the people who don’t. Everything is conditional. We just can’t always anticipate the conditions.”

Tritter stopped Cameron in the hallway and asked her if he could ask her some questions. He questioned her about the number of pills House takes in a day. She told him six and that she never wrote scripts for him.

Tritter asks her why she is so loyal to him when he’s not a nice boss and left Wilson holding the bag for him. Chase & Foreman saw her with Tritter and paged her. She told them about being consistent and they wanted to tell House about the questioning. She said no.

Meanwhile the young patient was sliding into a coma.

The father said: “Your barber sucks.” Then showed how big his pants were for him and said “Coma diet, I could make a fortune.”
House corrected him: “Actually it’s Vegetative State diet. Who gave you your clothes?”
Father: “Dr. Cuddy. I guess I’ll need all new ones anyway. Everything went in the fire.”
House said: “Don’t worry about it. We use recyclable clothes now. Wear the once, then eat them.”

The father found out that he will go back into a vegetative state within 24-48 hours again. He wants to get out and enjoy himself.

House and Wilson take the father on a road trip. The father insists on driving. What a hoot!

House continued to ask questions, hoping for some information that will let the son live. During the questions, House finds out that the father had ships where they sprayed using mildew resistant paint. The son used to play around the ships without a mask, so he got Mercury poisoning.

Chase was questioned by Tritter next. He said that he had written scripts for House. Tritter accused him of covering up something.

When the team started to treat him for mercury poisoning, he had heart problems instead. They start more tests..

House started to question the father even more seriously than before.

Next, Tritter questioned Foreman. He told Foreman…”everybody lies.”

It turned out that it was “ragged red fiber” which is passed down through the DNA of the mother. Foreman told House that the answer was too late, he was going to die anyway.

The father said he wanted to give the son his heart. Cuddy refused to let them take the father’s heart to save the son.

House told Wilson to leave the room so he could talk to the father alone without implicating Wilson.

House talked to the father about ways to commit suicide.

Wilson went to the casino to create an alibi for House and they stayed in the hallway while the father committed suicide.

After the transplant, the son was confused and wanting to know if his father had wanted to tell him anything. House told him what he would have wanted his own father to have told him. The son was confused.

The show ended with Wilson finding out that all of his accounts were frozen pending a police investigation.

Well, things are looking tough for House, thanks to his arch rival, Tritter. I’ve got to say that I’m not a fan of Tritter, but hope that House does decide to live within the rules a bit more. His ego is just way too far out of line. But I don’t want House to change too much. Al the terrific dialog would be missing. A nice and warm, fuzzy House would be boring!!

I can’t wait to see how he gets out of this mess with Tritter. What are your thoughts about the Tritter situation for House? Are you glad someone’s making him answer for some of his actions? Do you wish he’s go away and leave House as he is? Do you think this is an interesting story line for the show?

Leave a comment! Let us know what you think!

A new patient, a 600+ lb man is brought in. Nothing seems to be abnormal, but he’s in a coma.

Meanwhile, House is in jail after being arrested by Tritter (the David Morse character). Wilson bails him out and he’s in a particularly testy mood, even for House.

Apparently the patient is a loner and reclusive. He works from home and has food delivered. His gourmet kitchen is totally stocked and he has no friends.

A patient in the clinic sees House with a painful arm. He says that it’s because he sleeps on his arm and it hurts when he wakes up. House offers to amputate, “After all, it IS your left.” The patient calls him insane a rushes out of the exam room in a huff. (Jail didn’t change good old House…)

The large patient needs an MRI or a CT scan but is too big for either. The team has a debate about how to get the tests for him. They decide to try to do the MRI by only putting his head in. The table groans as if it’s about to give way. They guy’s coma persists. They don’t find anything that could be causing the coma. The patient wakes up screaming during the MRI and is disoriented.

The patient wants to go home, the team tells him he needs to stay until they find out what’s wrong. He and House get into an intellectual tug-o-war about his condition, but he still wants to go home.

Tritter gets a search warrant for House’s apartment and finds hundreds of vicodin. He’s making a case against House for being an addict and having enough drugs to traffic. Boy, when he holds a grudge, he really can be a real nasty guy.

They agree to let the large patient go home AMA (against medical advice.) Before he can leave the building, he collapses, breaking a large window.

The team goes back to the drawing board. They find out that Cameron gave him medication that caused him to get dizzy and collapse to make sure he didn’t leave. They decide to test for bacteria that could have come from imported food. They need to drill a hole in his head to do tests.

During the surgery, he starts to scream that he can’t see and panics. They have to test for MS and for diabetes.

House goes to see a lawyer recommended by Cuddy. The attorney suggests that House’s “particular brand of charm may not easily be appreciated by a jury.” He advises House to settle.

He hires the attorney and goes back to the hospital.

They ask him what his attorney said and he tells them, “That my winning smile can’t lose.”

House determines that the patient’s fingers are clubbed, meaning that he must have lung cancer. They do the appropriate tests and find that he has a small cell lung carcinoma. It’s metastasized. They can give him treatment, and it might give him a few more months. He has never smoked. He says, “C’est la vie.” (i.e. that’s life.)

House gets his charges dropped except the speeding ticket. Wilson goes to bat for him with Tritter and explains that he really needs the meds. He covers for House by saying that he writes his name different ways sometimes. Tritter leaves, but seems suspicious of the prescriptions anyway.

It will be interesting to see what new form of torture he devises to get back at House. Do you think House will learn anything from all of this? What do you think of Tritter? Leave a comment. Tell us what you think!

House and the team are puzzled by a young, interracial couple who come down with the nearly the same symptoms and defy early diagnosis. Once again, House has to weed through the maze of strange symptoms and disappointing test results to find the underlying reason.

I won’t give away the final diagnosis, because those of you who missed it will have the show spoiled. However, leave it to say that you probably won’t see this one coming.

To make the diagnosis, the team has to once again resort to searching the couple’s apartment, House accuses them of cheating and they undergo a myriad of dangerous tests…you know, the usual preliminary to finding the truth.

This episode also marks the debut of David Morse as a cop who was offended by House and makes it his mission to bring House to the realization that people must be treated with respect. I don’t know about you, but House without his rapier wit just wouldn’t be House. I think half the reason we all tune in is to see how he manages to say and do the things none of us would even consider doing in real life. We love to live vicariously through House.

It will be fun to see House take some of his own medicine, so to speak. Morse will probably make him do just that during his six episode stay on the show. Stay tuned to see how it all turns out.

Meanwhile, House is obsessed with the new nurse he thinks Wilson is interested in. He spies on her, confronts Wilson about her and generally makes a pain of himself…but this has a twist at the end of the show too. Cool!

Cuddy is still trying to conceive, House takes his manipulation and verbal assaults on his team to new heights and it turned out to be a satisfying, although disturbing show. If you missed it, be sure to catch the re-run.

Next week, House will return with another new episode and we get to see the confrontation between Morse’s character and House escalate. Don’t miss it!
