Here’s yet another piece that will be hard to find. It’s a limited edition canvas print. There are only 250 of these (as it states on the certificate accompanying it). It’s about Trading Card sized to give you an idea of the dimensions. Well, I got one, but there’s other cool House stuff you can get your hands on. if you’re lucky, that is. You’ll see what I mean in a later post.

Hi friends! First let me wish you all merry House-Mas and a happy New Year. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to write much, but I’ve been very busy in the last weeks. Some of you may know what it is like to attend med school… I’ve already had some House moments there and some co-students took note, wondering why I know so much. If you want, I can share a few stories, so let me know while I still have the time to write. Got a few days off for the holidays, so here’s your chance The picture accompanying this post is another example of my artwork, created specially for the occasion. I hope you like it.

However, I can’t wait for season 7 to continue. I’ve enjoyed all the eps so far and I hunger for new ones. My most fav ep was the very first one, but I also loved the one in which House had to take care for Cuddy’s kid.

I’m sure our favorite show did have one or the other impact on your personal life. Sometimes there are special stories, sometimes there are none.

However, I think my own story is one of those that can be considered special. I’ve mentioned part of what happened in some of my comments, but I decided to expand on it a bit more. As this is quite personal I’m hoping it will act as an inspiration to all of you and show you what can happen if you believe in yourself. I myself think of it as proving the inofficial House-theme song “You can’t always get what you want” wrong…

Well, here’s what happened to me: Back in 2008 I started to ask myself if House’ fav “differential diagnosis” really does work that way. Out of curiosity I bought a few medical textbooks and started to read. What can I say, I was intrigued Some time later a friend of mine who knew about my interest asked me, if I could look at the strange symptoms of his then girlfriend. I started working on it, but then decided, a team might be helpful. So I looked for an online forum. I found one and posted the problem there. I got no answers, but I think I figured out what was up on my own. I then read other problems other users posted and I was hooked. I still remember my true first case there. A young woman had been to various doctors for over 6 months – no one was able to find out what was wrong. Until she posted her problem! I solved it in a week and a special hospital later confirmed my diagnosis.

Because I’ve become a frequent writer there and the forum’s reputation went up, I wrote a lot of posts at work. Well, my superiors and my company didn’t like me doing private things at work, so I lost my job. This happened last year… And then there was this woman I helped. We became friends and she suggested I should try to go to med school. Other people I met in the forum and became friends with suggested the same. They have all the reason to do so, because I’m the forum’s very own House (Yep, they do call me that!). I had nothing to lose, so I did apply for med school and now I’m a student!

I don’t know, but I think being a doctor has always been a dream of mine. I never followed it until House came along. Then there was the forum, me losing my job last year and my friends who talked me into pursuing that dream. They all say I’m very talented and one of them even said to me: “Why do you wanna go to med school? You already do know it all …” This friend was so happy for me that her gift to me for me being able to live my dream now was a stethoscope! And hey, if Hugh’s dad could attend med school being 40 years of age, I can do it, too, though I’m a bit younger

This, in short, is what House has done for me. What impact did the show have on your life?

 I’ve got more pieces to share with you. This time they’re from a very good friend of mine. The following two “prayers” are the result of our project “Church of House“:

The “Our House“:
Our House, who art in Princeton Plainsboro, hallowed be thy name, Thy diagnosis come, thy will be done, in thy department as in the whole hospital. Give us this day our daily Vicodin and keep up the supply, as we share it with all the other addicts. And lead us not into rehab, but deliver us from the psychiatrists. For thine is the knowledge, and the scrip pad, and the correctness of thy diagnosis, from disease to disease. Amen!

The “Hail House“:
Hail House, full of Vicodin. The Genius is with thee. Blessed art thou among doctors and blessed is the fruit of thy brain, Diagnostics. Gregory House, Father of Differential Diagnosis, heal us sick now and at all time of your work. Amen!

And then there’s this nice poem my friend wrote:

House is a god, he is the man
He can work out what nobody can.
Any disease when there’s no release
He’ll find the only correct diagnosis.
No options, no hope
He’d stay calm, just watching a soap,
Sometimes even steal Wilson’s dope.
You’re cheating in answers, though life is through
House knows you are lying – finding out what is true.
Surrounded by idiots – that fate is hard
Don’t mess up with him – you’ll get the reward.
Addicted to Vicodin – for him that’s okay
To get rid of pain – for him no other way.
And even though, being all times high
He is Yahweh in the diagnostic sky.
Hail House!

My friend also wrote a hymn, but because of the amount of lyrics I’m gonna post it in another entry. Enjoy!

If House had a Coat of Arms... (by Greg)

As most of you know, I’ve submitted some of my artwork a few months ago. Now I’ve come up with something special.

 I thought, what if House had a coat of arms of his own? So I tried to recall what I’ve learned about heraldry back when I did some research on this topic out of private interest.
I came up with a possible design very quickly, but had no time to create the actual image. Today I finally found some time to do so. That’s why I’m proud to present you my version of a coat of arms for House.
When I checked what all the elements meant, I discovered my choice to be a perfect match. Here’s what it all means, based on heraldic lore:

The color blue (“azure”, as it is called in the lingo) stands for truth and loyalty. Gold (“or” in heraldic lingo) means generosity and elevation of the mind.
That jagged line of division between the shield’s colors means water, but I’m sure here we can include all bodily fluids as well.
The snake on the helmet is a symbol of wisdom, while the designs on the shield itself have the following meaning: the caduceus (ok, I took the liberty and used the “Snakes on a Cane” logo to better fit House) stands for medicine, balance and the union of opposing forces; while the book is a symbol of manifestiation.
And finally we have the motto “Mea fides in cura”. It’s Latin and the translation reads “I trust in healing”.

I think it’s a very fitting coat of arms for House and in a way, it could also be my own   I hope you like it and am anxiously awaiting your comments.

One of the best things about not being a part of a huge blog network any more is that I don’t have to comply with all their annoying (and limiting rules.) I can now post whatever I please with no one to tell me otherwise.

So I’m going to start a brand new category on this blog for House fan art. Several of you have sent me things that have been truly spectacular in the past, but I was only able to post a few of them. Now, I’m encouraging anyone who has House art to share, send it in!

To start things off, here are some really good pencil drawings done by House fan, Greg. He’s contributed some computer art in the past that I posted, but this is his own drawing talent. I know I’m impressed!

TV House Watch reader Greg has fired up the old laptop again and he has truly mastered those Photoshop filters!! I’ve been using Photoshop for 15 years and still get baffled at times by the filters. Great job, Greg!

He’s been working on several more great interpretations of photos of our favorite grumpy doctor and I thought you would enjoy them. My favorite is still the Van Gogh, but the watercolor comes in a close second for me. Which ones do you like best?
