House season 6

Today there was an announcement that House will also be released on Blu-ray for the first time ever! Of course, it will also be available on DVD. Both versions of House, season 6 will be released on August 31. You can pre-order the Blu-ray version too and it will ship on August 31.

Here’s a bit of the marketing text about season 6:

Get ready for a full dose of medical mysteries with 21 episodes of the riveting drama series, House. Hugh Laurie is joined by James Earl Jones (Star Wars), Laura Prepon (That ’70s Show) and David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) in guest appearances as he returns to his Golden Globe winning and Primetime Emmy Award-nominated role as Dr. Gregory House.

In this brilliant sixth season, House finds himself in an uncomfortable position – away from the examination room. As he works to regain his license and his life, his coworkers deal with the staff shakeups, moral dilemmas, and their own tricky relationships with House. And when House returns more obstinate than ever, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital will never be the same again.

House fans know that Hugh Laurie did the voice of the character Dr. Cockroach in the animated blockbuster movie Monsters vs Aliens. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hear that it was very funny and I want to see it. Hugh Laurie is always amazing and he says he had a great time making it, so be sure to watch it if you haven’t seen it either!

Now, it will be so much easier to see it, since it’s out on DVD. I also know two amazing little girls who need for Santa to bring them a copy this year. ;-)

I wanted to share the good news, in case there’s a person on your gift list that would enjoy the movie.

House Diagnoses are Real?
Dec 1st, 2006 by Lynn DeVries

In a recent poll on this blog, I asked what you, the readers, want to see more of on this blog. One of the choices was to learn more about the medical diagnoses and technology used in the show. Well, there’s a brand new book out that answers just that! It’s called “The Medical Science of House, M. D.” and it explains all the research that goes into the show and tells about actual cases like the ones on the show.

In an article in The Times, the author, Andrew Holtz, tells how he got the assignment to research the show and find out about its accuracy. Here’s what he says:

“My basic conclusion is the medicine in the show is possible, even if highly improbable,” said Andrew Holtz, a West Haven-based author who penned “The Medical Science of House, M.D.” “I was somewhat surprised. The show has some bizarre cases, so I went into it thinking (it was fantasy), but then I would do research and find that, oh, it has happened.”

“For fans, I think it answers that question about how realistic is the show. For everyone else, I think it’s a way of getting to some important issues,” he said. “People need to know how our health care system works. It is approaching 20 percent of our economy . . . and we all use it all the time, and yet people are not really educated about how the system works. I hope this book offers some basic information about what is possible, what is not possible.”

I know I plan to get a copy. It looks like it would be a great gift idea for the House fan on your list too!
