“HOUSE” CELEBRATES MILESTONE 100TH EPISODE
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, ON FOX
The prognosis is excellent for the brilliant, anti-social anti-hero Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) and his colleagues at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital as HOUSE celebrates a milestone 100th episode Monday, Feb. 2 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
In the 100th episode, “The Greater Good,” House and the team take on the case of a woman who collapsed in the middle of a cooking class. When they learn that the patient gave up her career as a highly renowned cancer researcher in order to pursue her own personal happiness, the members of the team question their own happiness (or lack thereof). Meanwhile, Thirteen (Olivia Wilde) begins to suffer serious and life-threatening reactions to her experimental Huntington’s Disease clinical drug trial, and Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) retaliates against House and gives him a taste of his own medicine.
Over the course of five seasons, House has proven no bar is too low and has shocked those around him with the lengths he will go in order to prove he’s right – from faking brain cancer to score drugs (“Half Wit”) to pulling a hair out of his father’s corpse to test the DNA (“Birthmarks”) to kidnapping his favorite soap star because he’s convinced the actor has an illness he doesn’t yet realize (“Living the Dream”).
Many notable guest stars have appeared on the show over the last 100 episodes including Academy Award winners Mira Sorvino and Joel Grey; Emmy Award winners Sela Ward, Cynthia Nixon, John Larroquette, Željko Ivanek and Charles S. Dutton; recording artists/actors Dave Matthews, LL Cool J, Brandy and Fred Durst; as well as David Morse, who received an Emmy Award nomination for his role on HOUSE. Other notable appearances include Ron Livingston, Anne Dudek, Carmen Electra, Julie Warner, Greg Grunberg, Chi McBride, Samantha Mathis, Lori Petty, Michael Michele, Jason Lewis, Kurtwood Smith, PRISON BREAK star Dominic Purcell and John Cho, who stars with HOUSE series regular Kal Penn in the “Harold and Kumar” films.
Winner of three Emmy Awards, including an award for creator and executive producer David Shore (Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series), HOUSE has been honored with 17 Emmy Award nominations, including three for Outstanding Drama Series and three for Hugh Laurie (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series). The series received the 2006 Humanitas Prize for the episode “Three Stories” and received two Golden Globe Awards for Laurie (Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series) and [two] Screen Actors Guild Award[s] for Laurie (Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series) as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination (Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series), two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Television Series, Drama, two consecutive People’s Choice Awards for Favorite TV Drama, a People’s Choice Award for Hugh Laurie (Favorite Male TV Star) and an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. HOUSE AND THE TEAM TREAT A DEAF TEENAGER ON AN ALL-NEW “HOUSE” MONDAY, APRIL 27, ON FOX
The team takes on the case of a deaf 14-year-old named Seth who collapsed after he started “hearing” explosions while competing in a wrestling match. When the team tries to test him for seizures, Seth loses vision in one eye, complicating House’s bunk theory of “Exploding Head Syndrome.” As his condition worsens, the team has an ethical disagreement about the patient and his mother’s adamant decision to forego cochlear implants to supplement his hearing. When the prospect of giving Seth the ability to hear for the first time in his life arises, House and the team are faced with a resounding decision. General Season 5 Spoilers
Spoiler:
Cathee: We are starving for House info! Please, pretty please?
Thirteen (Olivia Wilde) is getting a kickass storyline this year that is also very intense and heart-wrenching. As you know, we found out last season that she has the debilitating genetic disorder Huntington’s disease. In the premiere, this will give her a whole new ballsiness and outlook on life, which is pretty cool. We’ll also be flashing back to her childhood, when we’ll also meet her ill mother, who also suffered and died from the disease. [Source: E! Online]
Spoiler:
Question: Please give me some good news regarding Cameron and House. — Tammy
Ausiello: Not exactly sure if this qualifies as good, but Cameron starts spending a lot of time at Wilson’s pad in the first two episodes. Officially, she’s sprinkling some of her special widower fairy dust on his Amber-grieving soul. Unofficially, I’m guessing they had to…well…um…Once again Wikipedia comes through in a pinch!
Question: Just three weeks until House returns! Give us something! — Kristina
Ausiello: Call me crazy, but I was getting a serious Damages vibe after watching the Sept. 16 season premiere.
Question: Huh? Fox’s official House site lists Thirteen’s real name as Rena Hadley. I thought her real name was Remy? — Polly
Ausiello: It was! It is! A House rep tells me someone goofed and listed her name as Rena on the site. It should be fixed by the time you read this. [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
At House’s TCA session all I saw was Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps and the “new team.” Does that mean that Jennifer Morrison (Cameron) and Jesse Spencer (Chase) are no longer part of the show? — Kerry
Mickey: Very observant, Kerry, but I’m told their absence is not significant. Both Morrison and Spencer remain series regulars. In fact, an upcoming ep promises to shed new light on the couple.
Any romantic relationships for Dr. House this season? — Stephanie
Mickey: There’s a rumor that he and Cuddy will stop circling and start canoodling this season, but you didn’t hear it from me! [Source: TV Guide]
Spoiler:
Question: How about some non-Huddy House scoop for a change? — Dani
Ausiello: Could I interest you in something on Thoreman? Never heard of that particular portmanteau? That’s about to change, since executive producer Katie Jacobs tells me that a major, potentially romantic story line involving Foreman and Thirteen will kick off in November when Olivia Wilde’s ailing alter ego agrees to participate in a clinical trial overseen by Omar Epps’ Foreman. As a result, the pair “are going to be spending a serious amount of time together,” reveals Jacobs. Thirteen’s leap of faith will follow a tumultuous few episodes in which she has a random hook-up with an unidentified lovergirl (see last week’s AA for more on that) and witnesses firsthand the horrors of Huntington’s via a patient played by Lori Petty (A League of Their Own). “I don’t want to see Thirteen come down with Huntington’s,” confesses Jacobs, “but I think it’s important for the audience to see what she’s up against in dealing with [the disease].” Thoughts on Thoreman — the moniker and the pairing? Scroll down to the comments! [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: As much as I loved your Emmy interview with Lisa Edelstein — and I did love it — it wasn’t exactly overflowing with scoop. Did you uncover any real House dirt over the weekend? — Elaine
Ausiello: You just reminded me of something: I totally forgot to post my pre-Emmy one-on-one with House executive producer Katie Jacobs! What was I thinking?! I’ll tell you what I was thinking: I needed to save something for this week’s Ask Ausiello. And I think you’ll agree this particular spoiler was worth waiting for. With all my attention focused on the big Huddy kiss in episode 6, Jacobs blindsided me with the news that there’s also a sensational smooch in episode 5 — this one between Thirteen and another woman! “Even before the House and Cuddy kiss, Thirteen is on a little bit of a spiral,” Jacobs teased. “She has Huntington’s. And when you don’t know how many years you have left to live, you might exhibit some reckless, risk-taking behavior. And she doesn’t express it through her work, but after hours, she’s leading quite a life.” Who’s the lucky gal that gets to mack on Olivia Wilde? Jacobs isn’t saying. “Thirteen’s sexual involvement with this woman is not really about this other woman,” she explains. “It’s about Thirteen’s reckless behavior. It’s not the first time she’s done it, and it won’t be the last time.” I’d tell you what else Jacobs said but I have to save something for next week’s AA! [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
With the impending House-Cuddy romance looming, is there anything for the many loyal House-Cameron fans to look forward to during this dreary time? — Teresa
Mickey: Turn that frown upside-down, Teresa! It’s true that when House returns, all the death and betrayal we saw in the finale will definitely make for a few dark days. But I’ve been assured that Cameron’s moment in the sun is coming… just not necessarily at House’s side. [Source: TV Guide]
Spoiler:
Sources tell me the new character on House, private detective Lucas, has a crush on one Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein)! Apparently, love, like Legionnaires’ disease, is an infection that travels through the air—and the contagion is spreading through Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital!
As you may remember, Lucas (played by Six Feet Under’s Michael Weston) is the character being introduced for a multiepisode arc this season to act as a foil for the doctors and possibly be the main character in a House spinoff. In the meantime, however, it looks like he’s going to be another side in the love polygon surrounding Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie).
Is it just me, or is charming, blue-eyed rogue House not going to take too kindly to some charming, blue-eyed rouge moving in on his very favoritest hottie hospital administrator?
It’s OK, though, because if you ask me, persnickety and passionate House is the best kind of House there is. What do you think of this development? Do you think jealousy will finally drive House to declare his intentions to Cuddy? Post your take in the comments! [Source: E!Online]
Ausiello Gives us Mucho Spoilerage:
Question: Seriously, enough already with the Thirteen-Foreman, House-Cuddy scoops. We get it. Can we please get back to dishing about the upcoming return of the sorely ignored Chase-Cameron romance? We need some new scoop to hold us over until their episode finally airs! By the way, confusion abounds — when exactly does their episode air? — Mae
Ausiello: Okay, I checked with Fox and here’s how the next batch of episodes are shaking down:
Episode 5 (Oct. 21): Thirteen’s girl-on-girl smooch. Foreteen is born.
Episode 6 (Oct. 28): Huddy kiss.
Episode 7: (Nov. TBD): “The Chase-Cameron Show”
Episode 8: (Nov. TBD): I think this is the episode where Foreman approaches House about starting a clinical trial for Huntington’s disease, but don’t hold me to that.
Episode 9: (Nov. TBD): Hostage crisis starring dude from Damages.
Question: Loving Michael Weston on House. What’s the latest on his possible spin-off? — Josh
Ausiello: It’s officially… not happening. A Fox insider confirms that the potential offshoot has been scrapped. In its place, the network is said to be developing an hour-long House companion that revolves around Thirteen’s soon-to-be-introduced brother, a lawyer by the name of Eleven. (I’m here all week!) [Source: EWonline]
More Ausiello Spoilers:
Question: Now that we’ve seen the big House-Cuddy smooch, what can we expect next from these two? — Samantha
Ausiello: They’re moving in together on Dec. 2! Sort of. The collateral damage resulting from the upcoming hostage crisis at Princeton Plainsboro will force Cuddy to temporarily move into House’s office, which creates an even bigger crisis. Picture War of the Roses only with different leads and only slightly less attempted murder.
Question: Any info you have on House and Cuddy would be great! Will there be another kiss? — Kourtney
Ausiello: No kissing in the immediate future, although there will be some light fondling.
Question: Riddle me this: How is it that the Fox promo for next Tuesday’s House is completely focused on House and Cuddy, even though everyone (you included, my friend) has been hyping it for months as focused on Chase and Cameron? Are the blond lovebirds even going to share more than the already-spoiled surgery and make-out scene, or was this just more empty promises? — Emily
Ausiello: Okay, first off, simmer. Second, simmer some more. And third, keep simmering while I give you the facts about next Tuesday’s ep: Chase and Cameron are not in every scene, but issues surrounding their relationship — specifically, her reluctance to make room for him in her life (literally and figuratively) — loom large throughout the hour. Hameron also gets a fair amount of face time in the episode, since the victim-of-the-week is a former patient of Cam’s. [Source: EWonline]
Question: Now, Ausiello, you know you can’t use words like “light fondling” in regards to House and Cuddy and not provide some details. That is just torturing us! — Megan
Ausiello: I was trying to be tasteful about it. My mistake. House grabs a handful of Cuddy’s left breast on Dec. 2. Better?
Question: Do you have any scoopage on the upcoming hostage episode on House? — Suzanne
Ausiello: Not really, but here’s something else about the aforementioned Dec. 2 episode that’s pretty momentous: For the first time, Thirteen will refer to herself by her real name, Remy. [Source: EWonline]
Spoiler:
Dec in Norman, Okla.: I am so sick of all the mushy stuff on House. Please tell me the character hookups take a back seat to the diagnoses in the new year. I can’t handle it anymore.
Mmmm…sorry, can’t make any promises like that. Just talked to executive producer Katie Jacobs and she told me, “Our weekly medical mysteries are the meat and potatoes—and I say that because I love meat and potatoes—but it’s fun to break those conventions and get a little more personal.” So can I offer you a nice, well-balanced meal with meat and potatoes and candy-coated Cuddy on the side? [Source: E! Online]
Spoiler:
Question: A bunch of us House fans are debating whose bathroom House is in when he takes a bath in the Jan. 19 episode. Based on the promo Fox aired at the end of last week’s episode, I think it Cuddy’s bathroom. Others, however, think it’s either Wilson’s or House’s. Who’s right? — Erin
Ausiello: The “Others” win! The bathroom is most definitely House’s. In related news, I worry about you and your friends, Erin.
Question: Will Cuddy’s happiness with the baby last, or is there more heartbreak looming? — Naomi
Ausiello: Things will get worse before they get better. Let’s just say Cuddy’s maternal instincts don’t kick in immediately, and it freaks her out a little. [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Megan: As happy as I am that Cuddy got her Christmas miracle baby, I still want to see some Huddy love. Please tell me that this baby doesn’t mean the end for my favorite TV couple.
This baby doesn’t mean the end for your favorite TV couple, but the next episode has minimal Huddy, since both of them spend most of the episode at their respective houses: Cuddy’s preparing for a social worker who’s checking on the baby’s welfare, and House is dealing with a plumbing problem. That’s not a euphemism though. The man’s got problems with his pipes!
Mary in Epping, N.H.: Any dish on Foreteen? They’re really growing on me.
The final scene of the next episode is Foreteen-centric, and it will knock you back on your heels. After you gasp, you’ll spend the rest of the night tying yourself into ethical knots. It’s a very nicely developed plot twist, and it adds a layer to Foreteen that gets them up to Sixteen or Seventeen at least! Let’s just say that Foreman has to make a choice that will either jeopardize his career or her life/health, so it ain’t sweet and simple. [Source: E!online]
Spoiler:
Question: Thanks for the awesome Q/A with House’s David Shore and Katie Jacobs. Did you talk to Jesse Spencer at the Globes? Has he been frustrated by his lack of screen time, too? — Brendan
Ausiello: I did talk to Jesse, and, believe it or not, he says he “really enjoyed” all the downtime. “I’ve had time to pursue other interests. I think a lot of actors in this town, because there’s a lot of unemployment, are afraid. But I decided, ‘You know what? I’m not going to be fearful of this.’ I know that the show is good. I know that I’m a part of the show. And I know that I’m still going to be part of the show, so I never really had a problem with it. And I think they did the right thing. Normally in Season 4, you have a slump. It’s standard practice in a hit show for some reason — season 4 always slumps. So they tried to change things up before that happened.” That being said, two years of backburneritis is enough. “The last two years they’ve been integrating the new characters into the show,” he says, “and now it’s time that they brought us in more often.” Amen!
Question: Got anything on House’s 100th episode on Feb. 2? — Aleki
Ausiello: Sadly, I’m told Chase and Cameron aren’t in it at all. In David Shore and Katie Jacobs’ defense, they said C&C would be re-integrated next season. Patience, people.
Question: Are you kidding me? You tell us in last week’s AA that the 100th episode of House is a gift from the TV Gods, and then you fail to explain what you mean? — Christina
Ausiello: When Cameron proves a most unworthy successor to her throne, Cuddy reluctantly returns to work and proceeds to take out all her frustrations out on House. She basically spends the entire hour terrorizing him — i.e. stealing his cane, installing a tripwire in his doorway, screwing with the elevators so he’s forced to take the stairs, etc. Good stuff. And if you’re wondering why Cameron failed so miserably in Cuddy’s post, Jennifer Morrison’s happy to explain. “She’s a little afraid of herself in that position because she has trouble saying no to House,” she explains. “It’s tough, because she knows first-hand that sometimes his crazy requests are ultimately very important. It was fun [doing the episode]. Hugh and I had a really great time.”
Question: Okay, so Michael Weston’s character Lucas isn’t getting his own show, but the real question remains. Is he coming back to House? — Cindy .
Ausiello: Doubtful. I asked David Shore about the character’s sudden (and unexplained) vanishing act. “He did just kind of disappear,” he concedes. “He came in when Wilson was gone so House could have someone new to play off of, but in a different way. But once Wilson came back, we didn’t dramatically have a need for him anymore.” Regarding the now-scrapped Lucas-centered spin-off, Shore says the decision not to move forward “had nothing to do with” Weston. Then what did it have to do with? “Beyond that, I can’t say.” (Memo to self: Do some digging — there’s a story there!) [Source: EW]

According to Ausiello, House executive producers, David Shore & Katie Jacobs let the news slip about Huddy and their future sexual romp later this season!! At last night’s party to celebrate House’s 100th episode, they let the news out. And thank goodness Ausiello was there to snag it!
He tells us that it’s confirmed that House and Cuddy will actually have sex this season. That’s about as plain as it can be put, don’t you think? (Sorry, Hameron fans…this season it’s all about Huddy.)
As we know too well, sometimes the spoiler is tempered by the exact wording, so here are the exact quotes from Shore and Jacobs:
“Yes, we have figured out the details surrounding Huddy having sex,” declared Shore, adding that the duo will seal the deal before the end of the season. “There is a light at the end of the tunnel for fans of Huddy hoping for a hookup. It definitely won’t be what people expect. We have to do things our way, the House way. We wouldn’t want to have the characters do anything out of character.”
Adds Jacobs: “We have to be careful about making moves like this. We do not want to disappoint the fans and just do something out of left field.”
But we also know from many press interviews with the cast that they rarely know ahead of time what will be happening to their characters past the episode they are currently working on. So you know that Hugh Laurie couldn’t pass up a chance to have fun with this news:
Hugh Laurie: “Really? They told you that? They haven’t told me that. Do you suppose either one of them were ever going to tell me that? Was I just going to come in one day and read that in a script and be given no preparation time? Now I’m nervous. And I have to start doing some push-ups or sit-ups. Did they tell you how much of me will be shown? What areas do I need to work on? Now I am really glad I didn’t eat that 100-episode cake.”
“I think it will be a lot of fun,” he said. “These two characters, for all their bickering, obviously take such pleasure in each other’s company. They are two loners and there is a sort of comfort that they give to each other. This could be very sweet and touching, and, then I am sure, because I know David and how his sick mind works, it will all go pear-shaped.”
LOL! I can see Hugh working out extra hard at the gym now that he knows this is in his future. But I really find it hard to believe that he hasn’t guessed it yet… I mean come on…Cuddy was doing a pole dance in his fantasies last season. We all know how he feels about her.
But the cutest part is that Lisa Edelstein didn’t seem to know the news either. How funny! You think the producers would give her the heads up on it, at least before the press. Here’s what she had to say about it:
Lisa Edelstein: “I did not know they were going do it for sure,” she confessed. “I always figured someday it was inevitable but I had not heard that yet.”
“I don’t think there will be any shark jumping because it is still David Shore running the place,” she said. “If David got fired and someone else took over the show and put a sex scene in, I might be worried. But because it is David at the reins, I think it will be well thought out and planned and have a point.
“It won’t work out anyway,” she added with a laugh. “It isn’t like they’d would move in together and raise Cuddy’s new baby and have a wedding and a house in Connecticut. It will end in disaster. It may be really fun for a brief period of time, but then it will all come crumbling down. David is clearly not comfortable with positivity and happy endings.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Maya in Milford, Del.: Any truth to the rumor that Ethan Hawke or Campbell Scott are being cast as Wilson’s homeless brother on House?
None whatsoever. I caught up with House executive producers Katie Jacobs and David Shore, and they firmly debunked both those casting rumors. Katie says, “Wilson does have this brother, and David has just written a beautiful episode where that comes into play again.” Any thoughts on who the brother should be? I vote for Kyle Bornheimer. Worst Week’s season finale is coming up, and there’s a resemblance, right?
Lily in Tennessee: Please, more House scoopage! About anyone but Foreteen!
How about the other two new kids then? Kal Penn (who just got back from Obama’s inauguration) tells me, “[Kutner] does have an arc this season—you’ll see him more at home, with the giant bowl of cereal, for example, and we’ll see how the thing with his parents affects him,” and Peter Jacobsen tells me, “There’s trouble in paradise with Taub’s marriage. Nothing too drastic at the moment, but there’s difficulties looming.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: I heard a character might be leaving House at the end of the season. I’m scared it might be Cuddy. — Maude
Ausiello: Though exec producer Katie Jacobs played dumb when I asked her about the rumored departure at press tour, Cuddy ain’t goin’ nowhere. Trust me. That’s not to say that there aren’t big changes ahead. Hugh Laurie teased, “House undergoes some pretty traumatic stuff in the last half of the season. Not physical but mental. They have lined it up for something fairly cataclysmic, but not, cataclysmic just for the sake of being disastrous, and not just to end the season on a crazy note.” So Marcia Cross isn’t gonna blow up the hospital? Er, no. “Stuff doesn’t blow up,” he promises. “I hope we never blow things up, ever. This event is sort of contained within House’s head, [but] it is exciting.” [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: We haven’t seen much of Wilson lately on House. Do you know if there is anything in store for him? — Morgan
Ausiello: This certainly has the potential to boost his visibility. [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Question: So, how exactly is House going to make his pain magically disappear next week? — Reina
Ausiello: He switches to a new drug — and no, it’s not heroin. But that’s not the big news, this is: House and Wilson go on a date! [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
A main character will die this season.
This is the news I’m now hearing from reliable sources on House, that one of the cast members will be written out before the current season ends.
And trust me, it will shock the pants off of you. (Assuming you are wearing pants.)
So who will it be?
Obviously, we can’t come right out and report who will die because that would spoil a major plotpoint that will serve as the climax of the season. And honestly, it is far too good to spoil!
However, I can tell you:
- It’s not the most likely candidate–not by a longshot.
- It’s not someone who has been rumored to be leaving.
- It is someone who will shock you.
- How it happens will take you completely by surprise.
- There is no lead up to this death, it just…happens.
As House boss Katie Jacobs told us recently: “I think our cast will look pretty much the same next season.” The emphasis there is on pretty much, and it’s my understanding that it will be just one cast member to leave. Everyone else will be back in the fall. [Source: E! Online]
Spoiler:
A major character on a show we are obsessed with will commit suicide before the season is over — and no one will see it coming. The shocking death will send shockwaves through the show and the fallout will be immense.
Spoilerphobes may want to hit the nearest exit, because I’m about to give you a hint…
I learned of this death after I compiled my 2009 season-ending death chart, so it is not reflected on there. And it may never be. It’s a DEFCON 1 spoiler, so I’m proceeding with the utmost caution. I may at some point, between now and when the episode airs, stealthily update the chart with this catastrophic development. Or I may not. Just to be safe, you may want to refresh the page at least once a day.
In the meantime, let’s get those guesses flowing in the comments section. Just to recap what we know:
- Major character
- Major show
- Not featured in death chart
Let the speculation begin… [Source: EW]
Spoiler:
Is it true that someone is leaving House at the end of the season? If so, I’d love to know who, or at least get a few hints. — Amanda
MATT: Yeah, a lot of people have been playing catch-up ever since Katie Jacobs told me (back in January) that House’s team will be down a person come season’s end. Jacobs also said that the events of the finale, like last year’s, will have a profound impact on House himself. Having screened next week’s Mos Def-initely excellent episode — and in light of recent death/suicide rumors — I can foresee a future where the increasingly put-upon Taub takes his own life, right in House’s office. Hmm, might that make Dr. Nasty’s demeanor less mean? [Source: TV Guide]
Spoiler:
Beth in New Orleans: What can you tell us about the House episode with Mos Def?
The teaser for next Monday’s episode (“Locked In,” March 30) will totally freak you out. Mos Def plays a patient with locked-in syndrome, which means he’s paralyzed and can only communicate by blinking, but he understands everything going on around him. The ep is told from the perspective of his character’s thoughts. An Emmy-worthy performance by Mr. Def, for sure. As for the fun stuff: There’s a brief moment of flirting between House and Cuddy (the words “I’ll tie you up” are uttered), and it’s revealed that one of the main characters has been seeing a shrink.
